At Abbott Medical, our commitment to providing the highest standard of service extends beyond products to ensure seamless connectivity for your patients.

Your bedside Merlin@home transmitter uses mobile phone networks to connect to the doctor's office. Mobile phone providers have announced that they are transitioning from 3G to 4G, with the 3G network being shut down in 2024.

To make sure your bedside Merlin@home transmitter stays connected, we are providing you an opportunity to purchase an updated adapter that supports available networks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Why is this occurring?
Cellular providers are updating their cellular networks and plan to shut down older 2G and 3G networks. Some bedside transmitters rely on these networks to send implanted device data to clinics.
  • Are all cellular adapters being replaced? How do I know if my adapter is affected?
Only adapters that cannot connect to 4G networks are being replaced. Older, Sierra Wireless 885/888, Option Velocity GI0461, Sierra Wireless 313U, ZTE MF190, and Huawei MS2131 adapters will be affected and need to be replaced. • Which adapter should I keep?
    The ZTE MF 833V Adapter
  • Do I need to replace my bedside transmitter?
No, the transmitter does not need to be replaced
  • How do I know my bedside transmitter is working properly after I replace the adapter?
Plug the bedside transmitter back into the electrical outlet. While your transmitter is powering up, the LED lights on the front of the transmitter will scroll from left to right and the cellular adapter will display a solid red light for a short time and then go off. Once the boot up cycle is complete, the only light that will be illuminated will be the green power light on the front of your bedside transmitter. There will be no light on the cellular adapter.
  • What do I do with my old cell adapter?
After connecting your new cellular adapter, the old adapter should not be plugged back into the transmitter and does not need to be returned. You may dispose of the old adapter at your local electronic waste recycling center.
  • Can I purchase an adapter off the shelf instead of requesting one from you?
Only the ZTE MF 833V adapters purchased on this site are configured to work with your bedside transmitter and other adapters will not transmit the data to your clinic. It is important to use the adapter that meets testing and qualification requirements to ensure the connectivity quality.
  • Is there something wrong with my original cellular adapter?
No, there is nothing wrong with your current adapter. Your current adapter may only be able to connect with a 2G or 3G network. Because these are being shut down, you may need to use an updated adapter to connect with a 4G network
